KISSIMMEE, FL – Two twin 5-year-old sisters from Georgia have tragically died after being found unresponsive at the bottom of a swimming pool at an Osceola County vacation rental.
Tragedy At Rental Property
The Osceola County Sheriff’s Office responded to the Kissimmee rental home—located just south of Orlando—shortly after 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 12.
First responders found the two young girls at the bottom of the pool. They were immediately airlifted to Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children, where they were pronounced dead several hours later.
Investigation Details
According to investigators, the family was visiting the area from Georgia. At the time of the incident, four adults staying at the property had briefly left to buy food, leaving a 15-year-old at the house.
Homicide detectives are currently investigating the case, which is standard procedure in child death investigations. The local medical examiner is working to officially confirm the cause of death.
Urgent Pool Safety Warning
Local officials emphasized that pool safety is the number one priority, especially during this season. Authorities noted that a significant number of drownings and near-drownings in the county occur specifically at rental properties.
The tragedy highlights a grim statewide statistic:
- 50 children in Florida have died from drowning so far in 2026.
- The victims in these cases range primarily from 4 to 8 years old.
- Nationwide, unintentional drowning remains the leading cause of death for children ages 1 to 4, claiming around 4,000 young lives each year.
