ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. — Four people were injured early Sunday morning after a wrong-way driver caused a serious crash on an Interstate 270 ramp, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
Troopers said the accident happened shortly after midnight on the I-270 ramp connecting to I-64. A 39-year-old man from St. Peters was driving an Infiniti in the wrong direction when it collided with a Kia traveling correctly on the roadway.
Investigators reported that the Kia struck the Infiniti head-on due to the wrong-way travel. The driver of the Infiniti was injured in the crash and required medical attention.
The driver of the Kia, a 19-year-old man from St. Louis, was also injured. Two passengers in the Kia — a 19-year-old woman from Des Peres and an 18-year-old woman from St. Charles — were hurt as well.
Authorities said injuries ranged from minor to serious, though specific conditions were not released. All four individuals involved in the crash were treated by emergency medical personnel at the scene and transported for further care.
Both vehicles sustained significant damage and were towed from the scene following the investigation. The crash temporarily impacted traffic on the I-270 ramp as crews worked to clear debris and assist those involved.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the wrong-way driving incident. No additional details, including possible impairment or charges, have been released at this time.
