CHICAGO — Federal authorities are offering a reward of up to $10,000 for information leading to the arrest of a suspect accused of robbing a Brinks armored truck and shooting the driver outside a Chicago bank just days before Christmas.
According to the FBI, the armed robbery occurred in December outside a Chase bank in the Brighton Park neighborhood. Investigators said a 49-year-old Brinks driver was standing outside the bank when a suspect approached him.
Authorities said the suspect brandished a firearm and held the armored truck driver at gunpoint before opening fire. The driver was shot once in each thigh during the encounter. Despite the injuries, officials said the driver survived and was later treated for his wounds.
Witnesses at the scene told investigators they saw the suspect quickly loading bags into a bronze Hyundai Elantra before fleeing the area. The vehicle was last seen leaving the neighborhood shortly after the shooting, and investigators believe it played a key role in the suspect’s escape.
The FBI released new surveillance images this week in an effort to identify the person responsible. Officials hope the images, combined with public tips, will help move the investigation forward.
In addition to the federal reward, Cook County Crime Stoppers is offering an additional $1,000 cash reward for information that leads to an arrest. Authorities stressed that tips can be submitted anonymously.
Investigators continue to review surveillance footage from nearby businesses and traffic cameras, and they are working to track the movements of the suspect vehicle before and after the robbery. No arrests have been announced so far.
Law enforcement officials urge anyone with information about the suspect, the bronze Hyundai Elantra, or the robbery to contact the FBI or Cook County Crime Stoppers immediately. They emphasized that even small details could be critical in identifying the person responsible and ensuring public safety.
