Authorities in West Baton Rouge Parish are investigating a weekend theft that left a local convenience store out nearly $700 worth of candy, and they are urging the public to help identify the people involved.
According to investigators, the incident occurred early Sunday morning, February 22, at a convenience store located along Lobdell Highway. Deputies say a woman entered the store carrying a large trash bag and began loading it with multiple boxes of candy. Surveillance footage reportedly shows her moving quickly through the aisles, filling the bag before exiting the store without attempting to pay.
Store employees later discovered the missing merchandise and contacted law enforcement. By the time deputies arrived, the suspects had already left the area.
Investigators believe the woman did not act alone. A second suspect, described as an unidentified man, was allegedly waiting outside in a vehicle. Authorities say the vehicle involved is a dark-colored Volkswagen SUV. The pair is believed to have fled the scene shortly after the theft.
Law enforcement officials are reviewing surveillance footage and following up on leads but are asking for community assistance in identifying the suspects. Deputies emphasize that even small pieces of information could help move the investigation forward.
Anyone who recognizes the individuals involved or has information related to the case is encouraged to contact West Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office detectives at 225-382-5200 or 225-343-9234. Anonymous tips can also be submitted to Capital Region Crime Stoppers at 225-344-7867.
