MP JV vs. Boscobel

December 12, 2023

Mineral Point faced off against the Boscobel Bulldogs this Tuesday. This conference matchup was a big game for both the Pointers and the Bulldogs, as the JV team was looking to extend their winning streak.
The Pointers came out swinging with an almost immediate steal, leading to a fast-break layup from Grady Finley. The Pointers’ attitude and confidence were at an all-time high thanks to the diamond half-court press Coach Garrett Wendhousen implemented. The team has been rolling with this defense for the past few games, which has worked well. Thorin Vamstad, Mineral Point’s shooting guard, said, “We had hard-fought defense; we rebounded and didn’t let the other team get an opportunity to score. Our confidence was through the roof.”
By halftime, the game was in the Pointers’ hands.
Coming into the second half, the Pointers were up and feeling good. However, the Bulldogs were looking to bounce back. The game was nowhere near over. Keaton Dempsey connected on a left-wing three to get Mineral Point started, which seems to be his shot this season. He said, “To prepare for the game, I got hyped up with the other boys on the bus and just tried to keep a positive attitude and the flow from the last few games.” Dempsey has been shooting the ball well; hopefully, this will continue throughout the season. Cole Ripp also helped push the Pointers’ lead further with many offensive boards and a couple of putbacks.
As the game entered its final moments, players got rotated, played hard, and held the Pointers’ significant lead. Gaige Godfrey stated, “Aiden Wontroba, Nate Erikson, Wyatt Peat, and Carson Schroder contributed by keeping the ball on our side of the court. Nate and Aiden played outstanding defense and rebounded well. Wyatt and Carson moved the ball well and got open looks to seal the game.” The Pointers came out victorious, with a score of 46-25. They’re looking to keep their hot streak going for their game on Friday.
