Following the loss to Fennimore on Friday the Mineral Point varsity wrestling team made the quick turnaround on Saturday morning as they attended the Devils Duals invite in the Wisconsin Dells. The Pointers were paired up with Camblesport in round one. The Pointers came out on top after the back and fourth battle where Roen Carey, Emmett Collins, and Kade Rule all won by fall.
Following the 39-27 win over Camblesport the Pointers were placed in the championship bracket and were faced with a strong Marshfield team. After the first 4 matches the Pointers were down 18-3 but battled back with pins from Roen Carey and Emmett Collins and a tech fall by Kade Rule. But it was not enough, and the Pointers fell 36-30. They were then paired up with Melrose Mindoro but the Pointers struggled to win the close matches and fell to 1-2 on the day. Following the loss to Melrose Mindoro the best Mineral Point could finish was 13th with 2 matches remaining.
Then it was a battle between Mineral Point and Stoughton two of the most storied wrestling teams in the state. Mineral Point got off to a great start winning the first four matches and didn’t slow down from there defeating Stoughton 49-27. Following the win over Stoughton the Pointers were ready for there final match of the day vs Evansville for 13th place. Cole Pautz got Mineral Point started with a pin and Roen Carey followed doing the same. By the end of the dual the Pointers won 8 out of the 14 matches which was good enough for a 43-30 victory for 13th place out of 32 teams. A strong showing this early in the year.
The Pointers get a week to prepare for Friday’s matchup vs a solid Darlington Blackhawk team. Following that dual, the Pointers get time off for holiday break but will continue to prepare for the highly competitive Bi-State Classic on the 29th and 30th of December.
