Miami, Florida — A chaotic scene unfolded aboard a Southwest Airlines flight at Miami International Airport after a passenger allegedly attacked an off-duty federal officer during boarding, forcing authorities to intervene before the plane could depart.
The confrontation, which was captured on video, shows the passenger launching himself at the officer following an argument with his wife while other passengers and crew members watched the tense situation unfold.
Officials say the suspect was later arrested and taken into custody on multiple charges.
Passenger allegedly attacks officer during boarding
Authorities identified the passenger as 32-year-old Marcial Martinez, who reportedly became disruptive shortly after boarding a Southwest Airlines flight scheduled to depart for Denver.
According to reports, Martinez had been involved in a heated verbal argument with his wife moments before the confrontation escalated.
Witnesses say the situation intensified when an off-duty officer with the U.S. Department of Energy attempted to calm the passenger down.
Video footage from the incident shows Martinez suddenly rushing toward the officer and initiating a physical struggle in the aircraft aisle.
