Double Tragedy in West Pullman Shooting and Crash Leaves Two Dead on South Side

CHICAGO, IL — The West Pullman neighborhood is reeling after a violent incident late Sunday night left two men dead following a shooting that ended in a devastating car crash.

According to the Chicago Police Department, the chaos erupted at approximately 10:09 p.m. in the 12100-block of South Harvard Avenue. Residents reported hearing gunfire followed by the sounds of a high-speed collision, prompting a massive emergency response to the quiet residential street.

A Deadly Chain of Events

When officers arrived at the scene, they discovered a black sedan that had veered off the road and collided head-on with a tree. Inside the wreckage, police found two male victims, both suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

The details of the tragedy are as follows:

  • The Driver: A 20-year-old man was found behind the wheel. First responders rushed him to Advocate Christ Medical Center in critical condition. Despite the efforts of trauma surgeons, he was later pronounced dead.
  • The Passenger: The second victim, whose age has not yet been confirmed by the Cook County Medical Examiner, sustained fatal gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities are currently working to determine if the victims were shot while the car was in motion, causing the crash, or if the vehicle was targeted after it had already come to a stop.

West Pullman Residents on Edge

The 12100-block of South Harvard Avenue remained cordoned off for several hours as “Area Two” detectives and forensic investigators combed the area for shell casings and surveillance footage. No other injuries were reported in the incident, and police have not yet released a description of any potential suspects or a motive for the shooting.

West Pullman has seen a fluctuating rate of violent crime over the past year, and incidents involving both “rolling” shootings and vehicle crashes often present complex challenges for investigators. This latest double homicide adds to the growing tally of weekend violence that has plagued several South Side neighborhoods this spring.

Ongoing Investigation

Chicago Police have confirmed that no one is currently in custody. Detectives are asking anyone with information, or anyone who may have captured doorbell camera footage in the vicinity of 121st and Harvard, to come forward.

As of Monday morning, the identities of the two men have not been released pending notification of their families. This story is developing, and updates will be provided as the Chicago Police Department releases further information.
