Vallejo Man Killed On I-80 After Dispute With Ride-Hailing Driver

VALLEJO, CA – A 50-year-old Vallejo man lost his life early Saturday morning following a bizarre sequence of events on Interstate 80 that began with a dispute inside a ride-hailing vehicle.

Dispute Leads to Highway Tragedy

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported that the incident began around 1 a.m. as a driver in his 30s was transporting the victim home from a bar in Benicia. According to the driver, the passenger became verbally and physically aggressive while they were traveling on eastbound I-80, just east of Tennessee Street.

In an attempt to escape the assault, the driver pulled over to the shoulder and exited the vehicle. The passenger reportedly followed, chasing the driver along the right shoulder toward Redwood Parkway.

Fatal Collision on the Freeway

As the pursuit moved near the traffic lanes, the 50-year-old man entered the far-right lane of the interstate. He was struck by a black Audi sedan driven by a Vallejo woman in her early 20s.

Emergency responders arrived shortly after, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Ongoing Investigation

The CHP is currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the assault and the subsequent collision.
