Dallas, Texas — A deadly police shooting at Victory Station in Dallas has sparked attention after DART officers fatally shot a 17-year-old suspect who authorities say pointed a rifle at them during a pursuit near train tracks on Sunday evening.
The incident unfolded in a busy public transit area and was partially captured on video by bystanders, while officials later released body-camera footage of the encounter.
Witness Reported Armed Teen at Station
According to DART police, the incident began around 5:08 p.m. when a witness used a DART safety app to report a suspicious individual carrying what appeared to be a long gun near the station located at 2595 Victory Avenue.
The witness described the suspect as wearing white pants and a blue puffer jacket and claimed he appeared to be attempting to conceal the weapon.
Roughly 10 minutes later, responding officers arrived at the station and located someone matching the description on the platform.
Chase Escalated Near Train Tracks
When officers attempted to make contact with the suspect, police say the teen fled southbound and entered a culvert area alongside the train tracks.
Authorities stated that during the foot pursuit, the suspect allegedly turned toward officers and pointed a rifle in their direction.
At that moment, officers opened fire.
Police say the teen then took cover but refused repeated commands to drop the weapon, leading officers to fire additional rounds that struck him.
Videos Capture Chaotic Scene
Witness videos circulating online appear to show officers rushing toward the suspect after he fell near the tracks. In the footage, officers can reportedly be seen knocking an object away from the suspect while taking him into custody.
Additional images later showed the teen being transported away from the scene on an ambulance stretcher.
DART police also released body-camera footage connected to the incident as part of the department’s response to public concern surrounding the shooting.
Teen Pronounced Dead at Hospital
After the shooting, officers immediately began providing first aid until Dallas Fire-Rescue arrived at the scene.
The suspect was transported to Parkland Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
At the request of the family, DART publicly identified the teen only as K.B., a 17-year-old.
Officials confirmed that no officers or bystanders were injured during the confrontation.
Investigation Underway
The Dallas Police Department’s Special Investigations Unit is now handling the criminal investigation into the shooting at DART’s request.
Authorities have not yet released additional details regarding what led the teen to allegedly carry the rifle near the station or whether any charges were pending prior to the incident.
As investigators continue reviewing body-camera footage, witness videos, and evidence from the scene, questions surrounding the shooting and police response are expected to remain under close scrutiny.
The fatal encounter has once again sparked discussion around public safety, armed suspects, and the use of deadly force by law enforcement officers in high-pressure situations.
