Hollywood, Florida — A 79-year-old Florida man has been arrested after neighbors accused him of repeatedly exposing himself and engaging in lewd behavior around a Hollywood apartment complex, according to police.
Authorities say the bizarre incidents had left residents frustrated and alarmed for weeks before officers finally responded to multiple complaints at the property on May 22.
Neighbors Report Repeated Lewd Behavior
According to police, residents told officers they were “increasingly concerned and frustrated with his continued behavior” around the apartment complex.
The suspect, identified as Tyrone James Causey, allegedly walked through common areas exposing himself and making vulgar gestures toward neighbors.
At least five residents reportedly told police they had witnessed Causey exposing himself on multiple occasions. One woman also accused him of “thrusting his penis” toward her doorbell camera.
The complaints eventually led officers to visit Causey’s apartment to investigate the allegations.
Man Allegedly Answered Door Wearing Only Thong
Police say Causey immediately demonstrated the behavior neighbors had been describing.
According to reports, he answered the door wearing nothing except a “G-string thong.”
Authorities said Causey then attempted to justify his actions by arguing he had a legal right to be naked in public.
He allegedly claimed he had “a right to walk around naked under Florida Statute 800.001” as long as he was not at a “park.”
However, Hollywood Police Department Officer Savannah Hutcheson reportedly informed him that publicly exposing himself in common areas was illegal.
Despite the explanation, police said Causey insisted he was allowed to do so and claimed he did not realize he was allegedly being recorded by neighbors.
Police Describe Strange Encounter During Arrest
The situation reportedly became even stranger during the interaction with officers.
According to reports, Causey allegedly applied lipstick while standing in front of the responding officer before engaging in additional inappropriate conduct.
Authorities said the 79-year-old then “began touching his penis” and allegedly asked the female officer to “jump rope for me, baby doll.”
Following the encounter, Causey was arrested and booked into the Broward County Jail.
Charges Reduced From Felonies to Misdemeanors
Causey was initially charged with five felony counts of indecent exposure due to a prior indecent exposure arrest dating back to 1987, which prosecutors argued qualified the allegations as repeat offenses.

However, a Broward County judge later reduced the charges after finding probable cause only for standard misdemeanor offenses.
As of May 22, Causey had reportedly been released from custody.
Separate High-Speed Chase Incident Also Revealed
Authorities also noted that Causey had been arrested in an unrelated incident earlier this year following a dangerous high-speed chase in the Florida Keys.
According to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, Causey allegedly sped through a construction zone in March 2026 before leading officers on a reckless pursuit.
Police said he drove erratically at speeds exceeding 100 mph, tailgated other drivers and committed several traffic violations before finally stopping.
He was later charged with reckless driving and speeding in that incident.
Residents Remain Disturbed by Allegations
The case has drawn significant attention due to the bizarre allegations and repeated complaints from apartment residents.
Authorities have not stated whether additional charges could be filed as the investigation continues.
The incident also highlights ongoing concerns surrounding disruptive and inappropriate behavior within residential communities, especially when multiple residents report feeling unsafe.
