Five Hospitalized After Carbon Monoxide Leak At Terrell Healthcare Center

TERRELL, TX – Multiple emergency agencies rushed to a Terrell nursing and rehabilitation facility on Tuesday after high levels of carbon monoxide were detected, forcing the hospitalization of five patients.

Emergency Response At Nash Street

First responders were dispatched to the Terrell Healthcare Center in the 200 block of W. Nash Street. The massive response included Terrell police and fire personnel, Kaufman County EMS, CareFlite, and a specialized Ambulance Bus (AmBus) from the Cedar Hill Fire Department to assist at the scene.

The Terrell Fire Department Fire Marshal later confirmed that a carbon monoxide leak had occurred. While the leak has since been stopped and there is no ongoing danger, five patients were transported to area hospitals for additional medical care.

Resident Assessments and Triage

In an emergency message sent to families, Terrell Healthcare Center officials stated that the gas was detected in a specific portion of the building. Emergency crews spent Tuesday evening conducting individual assessments of the residents.

“At this time, residents are being assessed individually and triaged appropriately based on their condition and needs,” the facility stated.

Management assured families that they are working closely with emergency responders and will contact loved ones directly if a resident requires a transfer or further evaluation.

Area Avoidance Advised

The exact cause of the leak is still unknown. Terrell police confirmed that the fire department is continuing its investigation and has requested that the public avoid the Nash Street area while emergency operations wrap up.

Officials have not yet released the total number of residents who may have been exposed or affected by the leak.
