Brooklyn, New York — Authorities are searching for a suspect accused of violently attacking a group of children inside a Brooklyn park in a disturbing incident that left a 7-year-old boy injured and shocked the local community.
The assault reportedly took place inside Bush-Clinton Park in the Red Hook Recreation Area just before 6:30 p.m. last Monday, according to the NYPD.
Children Allegedly Targeted Inside Park
Police say the unidentified man approached three children — a 5-year-old girl, a 7-year-old boy, and a 12-year-old boy — while they were inside the park.
Without warning, the suspect allegedly became violent.
Authorities said the man first knocked the 12-year-old boy and the 5-year-old girl to the ground before turning his attention to the youngest boy involved in the incident.
According to police, the suspect then allegedly grabbed the 7-year-old boy by the neck and attempted to strangle him, creating a terrifying scene for the children and anyone nearby.
The shocking nature of the alleged assault has sparked outrage and concern among residents, especially given the ages of the victims.
Suspect Fled Before Police Arrived
After the attack, the suspect reportedly fled the park on foot before officers arrived at the scene.
Police later released images of the man as part of their effort to identify and locate him.
The suspect was described as wearing a blue T-shirt, black shorts, and gray-and-orange athletic sneakers at the time of the incident.
Investigators have not yet released additional details regarding a possible motive, and it remains unclear whether the children knew the suspect before the encounter.
Young Victims Treated for Injuries
Emergency medical workers responded to the scene and treated all three children following the assault.
Officials said the 7-year-old boy suffered bruising and pain related to the choking incident. The conditions of the other two children were not described as serious.
Authorities have not confirmed whether the children’s parents or guardians were nearby at the time of the attack.
