BEVERLYWOOD, CA – Los Angeles Police Department officials announced Thursday that a man arrested after a home invasion in Beverlywood is now linked to a massive burglary string involving at least 25 different cases across the city.
The Beverlywood “Hot Prowl” Arrest
The investigation centered on 22-year-old Kevin Diaz, a Los Angeles resident who was taken into custody following a “hot prowl” burglary on Monday. The incident occurred in the 1500 block of Rexford Drive.
According to LAPD, the resident was inside the home when Diaz broke in. The victim managed to lock himself in a bathroom and call 911. Arriving officers spotted Diaz inside the house wearing a black hoodie; he fled the scene but was quickly captured in a neighbor’s backyard after a short pursuit.
Connection to International Theft Groups
Detectives have identified Diaz as a member of an organized South American theft group. These crews are known for highly coordinated heists and have recently been active across California, from San Diego to the Bay Area.
Of the 25 burglaries linked to Diaz, 14 occurred in the San Fernando Valley. His alleged crime spree spanned multiple LAPD divisions, including:
- West LA and Olympic
- Southwest
- Devonshire, Mission, and West Valley
Charges and Ongoing Investigation
Diaz has been booked on first-degree residential burglary charges. His bail has been set at $50,000.
While this arrest marks a significant breakthrough, LAPD sources indicate that international burglary rings remain a major concern. Authorities are working to determine if other individuals involved in these organized heists are still operating in the Valley or surrounding neighborhoods.
