Man Killed in Daviess County Crash After Failing to Yield at Stop Sign

DAVIESS COUNTY, Mo. — A 26-year-old man from Lawson, Missouri, was killed Wednesday following a two-vehicle crash in rural Daviess County, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

Troopers said the crash happened on Route DD, about one mile west of Gallatin. Investigators determined the man was driving a Chevrolet Equinox southbound when he failed to yield at a stop sign. As the vehicle entered the intersection, it was struck by a westbound Chevrolet Silverado traveling on Missouri Route 6.

The impact forced both vehicles off the south side of the roadway. Authorities reported that the Silverado overturned after leaving the road, striking a utility pole and a nearby fence before coming to rest. The Equinox remained upright and stopped on its wheels a short distance away.

Emergency responders arrived on the scene shortly after the collision. The driver of the Equinox was pronounced dead at the scene. According to the highway patrol’s crash report, the man was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.

The driver of the Silverado, a 38-year-old man from Union Star, Missouri, suffered minor injuries. He was transported to Mosaic Life Care for treatment. Troopers noted that he was wearing a seat belt.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol said the crash remains under investigation. No additional contributing factors, such as alcohol or excessive speed, have been released at this time.

Officials continue to remind drivers of the importance of obeying traffic control devices and wearing seat belts, noting that seat belt use significantly reduces the risk of fatal injuries in serious crashes.
