BANNING, CA – A 34-year-old man is behind bars after allegedly attacking another man with a baseball bat, leaving the victim in critical condition on Sunday afternoon.
Emergency Response on Ramsey Street
Banning Police Department officers responded to the 500 block of W. Ramsey Street after receiving reports of a man lying on the ground, bleeding from his face.
Upon arrival, officers found the unidentified male victim unresponsive and suffering from significant facial injuries. Paramedics rushed him to a nearby hospital, where he remained in critical condition as of Monday afternoon.
Attic Arrest Following Search Warrant
Witnesses at the scene informed police that the suspect, identified as Jaime Luis III, struck the victim in the head with a baseball bat before fleeing into a nearby apartment building.
Following up on witness accounts and evidence collected at the scene, investigators secured a search warrant for a Ramsey Street apartment. At around 9:00 p.m. on Sunday, officers served the warrant and located Luis hiding inside the apartment’s attic. He was taken into custody without incident.
Charges and Booking Details
Luis has been booked into the Larry D. Smith Correctional Facility on charges of attempted murder.
The motive behind the violent assault remains unclear, and the Banning PD Detective Bureau is actively investigating what led up to the incident.
