HARLEM, NY – A tragic late-night accident just blocks from Central Park left a 13-year-old boy dead and a 14-year-old injured after their motorized scooter collided head-on with an SUV on Thursday night.
Fatal Head-On Crash
According to the NYPD, the incident occurred just before 8:50 p.m. on West 112th Street. Two young teenagers were riding together on a motorized scooter when a Chevy Tahoe, driven by a 63-year-old man, made a left turn onto West 112th Street from Adam Clayton Powell Jr. Boulevard.
The SUV collided head-on with the oncoming scooter.
Casualties and Emergency Response
Emergency responders rushed both teenagers to a nearby hospital.
- The 13-year-old boy sustained severe head trauma and was tragically pronounced dead.
- The 14-year-old boy was treated for a leg injury and is currently listed in stable condition.
The driver of the Chevy Tahoe remained at the scene following the collision and did not report any injuries.
Investigation Ongoing
The NYPD Highway District’s Collision Investigation Squad is handling the case. At this time, officials have not specified the exact type of motorized scooter the juveniles were operating.
No arrests have been made as detectives continue to piece together the exact circumstances leading up to the fatal crash.
