Tunnel To Towers Opens New Veterans Village To Combat Homelessness

LONG ISLAND, NY – The son of a 9/11 hero is continuing his father’s legacy by transforming a former community eyesore into a sanctuary for veterans.

A New Chapter for Long Island

On Monday, the Tunnel to Towers Foundation officially opened its newest Veterans Village on Long Island. The site, which was previously a “decrepit building” and a source of local concern, has been fully renovated to provide high-quality housing for those who served.

“It has been a blight on the community… and now it’s going to be all about great stuff,” said Stephen Siller Jr., son of the late 9/11 firefighter Stephen Siller.

National Mission for Heroes

The foundation was established in honor of Stephen Siller, who sacrificed his life during the September 11 terror attacks. Since its inception, the nonprofit has achieved several major milestones:

  • Housing Support: Provided assistance and services to over 17,500 homeless veterans.
  • Gold Star Families: Dedicated to helping every family that has lost a service member or first responder in the line of duty.
  • Nationwide Expansion: Building specialized villages across the country to support severely injured veterans and their families.

Restoring Dignity to Veterans

The Long Island project is part of a larger nationwide push by Tunnel to Towers to eliminate veteran homelessness. By converting abandoned or neglected properties into modern housing, the foundation aims to provide veterans with not just a roof, but the supportive services they need to reintegrate into the community.

Officials state that the goal remains clear: ensuring that those who risked everything for the country are never left without a home.
