Want to be part of a national organization that focuses on excellence? Be sure to start preparing early in your high school career by working hard in and out of class, volunteering, and practicing leadership. Here’s what you need to know…
In order for a Mineral Point student to be invited to apply for membership to National Honor Society, they must have a cumulative GPA of 3.65 or higher at the completion of the first semester of either their junior or senior year. Once invited to apply, students submit both an application and essay demonstrating their commitment and excellence to all four pillars of NHS: Scholarship, Service, Leadership, and Character. Membership is then determined by a staff selection committee. As a member of NHS, students will attend regular chapter meetings and participate in service projects throughout the year, including serving at community dinners, helping at the Elementary School Family Math and Reading Nights, and raking leaves for community members just to name a few.
Interested? Go above and beyond to strive for a high GPA. Get involved in clubs, activities, community organizations, etc. Find ways to be a leader in and out of the classroom: Apply for student government, ask great questions in your classes, help fellow students when they’re struggling, support classmates outside of school at sporting or music events, and engage with all students in a kind manner. Volunteer, volunteer, volunteer! Be sure to keep track of any community service opportunities you participated in each year.
