Recently Mineral Point put on its annual Ice Lantern Festival. This year, the festival added some new twists. Since this year’s festival was more family-oriented, High Street was blocked off so many fun activities could take place. Some of these activities included: a cake walk, a dog fashion show, a costume contest, dancing in the street, and then, of course, the competitive ice lantern contest.

Many Mineral Point students contributed to this year’s festival by making baked goods for the hot chocolate and dessert stand or by working at the event. Most importantly, Mrs. Macauly’s art classes made over 50 ice lanterns this year! All of these ice lanterns were donated to businesses to place outside their shop to make High Street look a little more festive than it already is. Nolen Fox, a sophomore at MPHS stated, “It was a great festival… I enjoyed making ice lanterns for the community and loved being able to support the community in a positive way.”

The Ice Lantern Festival has been a local favorite for many people and this year did not disappoint.
