MP Middle & High School is Home to Multiple Twins and Triplets

Abby, Elliott, and James

Did you know that Mineral Point School has 13 twins/triplets, including Mr. Carr and Mrs. Gollon?

Twins are either dizygotic (fraternal) or monozygotic (identical), meaning they develop from only one zygote; identical twins will always be the same gender.

When most people think about twins, telepathy comes to mind, but this is unfortunately not the truth. According to Psychology Today, twins that were tested independently chose the same outfit, answered test questions precisely the same way, and finished each other’s sentences, but there is a better way to explain these choices and connections. Their shared genes predispose them to have similar interests and be drawn to the same people, places, and events.

A few other fun facts about twins are that they are also more likely to be left-handed, have the same amount of happiness, and make their own language.

Now, back to our very own twins and triplets. In the best interest of this article, we asked the twins and triplets of Mineral Point High School to answer some questions. Here are their responses.

What is your favorite part of being a twin?
Carson- “Always having someone to relate to.”
Hudson- “Always having someone to do things with.”
Elliott- “My favorite part of being a triplet is the look on other people’s faces when I tell them I’m a triplet.”
Sadie- “My favorite part of being a twin is always having someone there for you, no matter what.”
Sophie- “You will always have a built-in best friend.”
Ellie- “Always having someone to do activities together.”
Jayden & Kallie- “You always will have that forever best friend just like you.”
Mr. Carr- “I always had someone to do something with, and it’s almost like a small group of friends.”
Mrs. Gollon- “It was nice in high school always having somebody.”

What is your least favorite part of being a twin?
Carson- “We are constantly compared to each other.”
Hudson- “Having to be with each other all the time.”
Elliott- “Least favorite part- having to be with my siblings in everything.”
Sadie- “Having to be compared all the time to each other.”
Sophie- “Always being recognized as both of us being one person and calling me the wrong name.”
Ellie- “Always competitive.”
Jayden & Kallie- “You have to share everything, and when one of us does something without the other, we confuse our memories and think we both did it and have the same memories about it even though only one of us did it! Another one would be that people always get our names mixed up.”
Mr. Carr- “I always got the same stuff for Christmas and birthdays. Sharing birthdays itself isn’t the best.”
Mrs. Gollon- “Someone was always with me.”

How do you handle sharing things?
Elliott- “I’ve always grown up sharing things; it’s normal.”
Sadie- “We share our clothes and shoes all the time, which means I get a double wardrobe.”
Sophie- “We share a majority of our things, but I like to have my own things too.”
Ellie- “We don’t really share anything besides our car. We both have different styles and interests.”
Jayden & Kallie- “It’s sometimes hard to share everything, but what we do is first come, first serve, or we have to do it together.”
Mr. Carr- “ I think it was a perk because we had to share our PS4, TV, or something. It taught us a valuable life lesson.”
Mrs. Gollon- “We didn’t share much.”

What do you feel is the difference between your twin and other siblings?
Carson- “We don’t have another sibling.”
Elliott – “It’s pretty easy to tell us apart. We don’t look like multiple siblings. Another difference is that we have different interests. For example, James likes engineering and designing cities, Abby likes writing and singing, and I like playing in orchestra and learning new hobbies.”
Sadie- “The difference between us is that I have braces, and Sophie doesn’t.”
Sophie- “To tell us apart: Sadie has braces and a rounder face, and I have no braces and a more oval face.”
Annie-
Ellie- “I treat my twin the same as I would my other siblings. I don’t feel any different.”
Jayden & Kallie- “We fight just as much.”
Mr. Carr- “I am closer to them because you’ve been in the same cycles/phases simultaneously.”

What is your favorite moment with you and your twin?
Sadie- “My favorite memory of being a twin is when one of us would get in trouble, and we would blame the other one, but most of the time, they couldn’t tell us apart, so we would get away with it.”
Sophie- “Probably switching seats in kindergarten since Sadie wanted to sit by her ‘boyfriend’ and I wanted to sit by mine. The teacher didn’t find out until I accidentally wrote my name on her paper.”
Ellie- “Wining State Cross Country in 2021.”
Jayden & Kallie- “Our favorite memory together is probably when we were younger; we would switch classes with each other and and see how their class was and then switch back after classes.”
Mr. Carr- “No specific memory, but I liked interacting with teachers.”
Mrs. Gollon- “Getting into trouble.”

Are you an identical twin?
Carson- “ We are not identical.”
Elliott- “Nope.”
Sadie- “We are identical twins that are one minute apart.”
Sophie- “Yes, we are identical twins.”
Ellie- “Yes, we are identical.”
Jayden & Kallie- “We are identical twins.”
Mr. Carr- “Not identical triplets. You could tell we are related, but it would be like another sibling.”
Mrs. Gollon- “My brother and I are not my identical twins.”

Twins are a riveting topic that people love to talk about. I’ve heard teachers, parents, and students make small talk out of it countless times. I often ponder the question, what would my life be like if I had a brother or sister who was the same age as me and went through all life’s phases alongside me?
