MPHS Marching Band

The marching band brings the magic to each halftime show during the football season. Over the past few months, they have been taking time out of their day working to bring forth a show that will never be forgotten — the Disney Reimagined Show. During this season, they have felt enormous amounts of pressure memorizing their musical pieces along with the over 30 footwork sets. In each show, there are various sections broken up by instrument category. However, all the sections are united in movement with the leadership of Drum Major — the person who conducts on the platform —Julianna Cool who said, “The band works hard playing and marching to their sets, and I do my part by conducting so they can stay in time together. It can be stressful at times, but in the end, the show always comes together.” Some say it is because of Cool’s leadership, that the show comes together.

This is an example of a set form. This shows the position of everyone on the field.

In addition to the band, the color guard learns completely separate routines that need to mesh with the movement of the band. It can be very stressful!

Featured songs in this year’s show are “Bare Necessities” from the movie Jungle Book, “Fantasmic,” which is a Beauty and the Beast and Little Mermaid medley, and last, but certainly not least, “Let it Go” from the movie Frozen.

For Homecoming, they will be performing during halftime some intense routines. The routines involve moving across the field between sets. As the wind and percussion players of the band move around the field they make different shapes such as bananas for “The Bare Necessities” and a boat for “Fantasmic” to represent “The Little Mermaid” portion, the color guard acts as the outline to the band and helps clarify the shapes in each set.

New this year is trumpet soloist, Finn Renwick. Regarding the challenges of this, he said, “It started out rocky in the beginning, but once we figured out what we were doing we got into a better spot. And I think the show is in good shape and we’re as good as we’ll ever be.”
