Homecoming Week
The lights flicker, the music blares, and the dance shoes come off at the 2023 Mineral Point High School Homecoming. The night starts off with the crowning of Queen Regan Schuette and King Gibsen Sporle, and the party begins!
Let’s rewind and start from the beginning, Monday was the kickoff of Homecoming with getting all dolled up and dressing up as your favorite childhood doll. The most common outfit was definitely Barbie and Ken. Tuesday was dressed as your favorite Las Vegas performer. The best outfit went to Ryley Reichling who dressed up as the rapper Pitbull. Wednesday had each grade dressing up as their assigned Las Vegas hotel. The juniors dressed up in their Mirage beach attire and had the most winning points that day.
On Thursday when you entered the school, your eyes were blinded by all the bright-colored outfits each grade was wearing. Freshmen rolled in with lime green, followed by sophomores with orange, then juniors with purple, and finally the seniors with all black. In the morning each grade worked together to make the best possible float. Everybody had to help and it was a team effort to make sure it was completed. This year the best float went to the sophomores with a circus theme! The excitement continued as the girls got their game faces on, ready to win in powder puff football. The freshman secured the deal by beating juniors in the championship! This was the first time a freshman won in powder puff history Clayton Yanna and Jake Dannenberg were the MVP coaches.
Later Thursday night the whole town of Mineral Point gathered on High Street to watch the annual Mineral Point Homecoming Parade. The color blue crowds the street while many cars and flouts flutter down the road. Immediately following the parade was the pep rally which is where they burn the MP and the representatives walk out with the senior fall sport athletes. The night ended with coach Leonard announcing the Homecoming King and Queen — Gibsen Sporle and Regan Schuette.
Spirit Day is finally here on Friday with great excitement in the air. Everyone crowded in the bleachers eagerly waiting for the pep rally to begin. The student council planned many activities that kept everyone on their toes. It came down to every last point. But the juniors once again took it all home winning the spirit stick. That night at the football game everyone was dressed in blue ready to cheer on the Pointers. As the Pointers ran through the banner, the crowd erupted and cheered. The JV got ready to play while the varsity sat and cheered from the sidelines due to Parkview forfeiting against the varsity. The football team secured the win with a score of 36-14.
The next morning, while the girls rused to get ready the boys are sound asleep. Girls have to get their makeup done flawlessly, put pounds of hairspray in, and get a million bobby pins in their hair. While the guys only have to shower and put some cologne on. After about a million pictures the ties were put on and the heels were finally strapped. The kids waited for the clock to strike 8:30 so the dance could begin. The grand march involved the court members walking on the runway while being blinded by the spotlight. Then they had to slow dance while their parents took thousands of photos. Finally, the parents left, and the fun began. Music blared, and students sang while everyone crowded in a circle bumping into each other. Our Song and Get Low were some song pleasers. The night was filled with smiles and laughter while making new memories. October 7th was a night that everyone will remember.
