Nothing gets the town of Mineral Point more excited than beating Cuba City. There has been a rivalry for years as the towns battle in every sport possible. It has gone back and forth in football, but that’s about to change this Friday when the Pointers will come out with a W against the Cubans. Both teams have a 5-3 overall record and a 3-1 in the conference, so they are equally as good. Coach Lenord says the biggest strength of Cuba City is their offensive, skilled players who are very talented. So if Point wants to win, they must stop those players. This game could help declare spots for rankings in the conference and show that Mineral Point is better than Cuba.
Some of our Pointers say that they think the game will be close, but Point will score a touchdown for the win at the end of the game. Junior Colton Dochnahl says, “The score of the game will not matter at the end as long as we take care of business,” hopefully, he is right. Mineral Point football is overall a pretty rounded team, and almost all of them can score a touchdown. Senior Brock Linch thinks that Tremaine and Luke will score Mineral Points touchdowns. Gibson Sporle, Points starting QB, will have to be able to connect with his teammates to have a good game.
Cuba City head football coach, Guy Kopp, has led his team to success in the past and this season, so Mineral Point will have to bring their A-game to win this Friday. The game starts at 7 PM, and it will be packed since it is an important conference game. The stands will be packed, so don’t be late!
