The Mineral Point FFA Chapter is a club where you learn about agriculture and its meanings and have fun doing competitions. The Mineral Point FFA has been around since 1929 meaning that this year, our FFA chapter will turn 95 years old. Here is a little bit more about Mineral Point FFA:
The Mineral Point FFA has seven officers: Annie Robinson, Ellie Robinson, Regan Schuette, Ella James, Payton Heins, and Luke Schubert. “They have a variety of jobs; their main one is to lead the FFA,” said Mr. Robinson, “They also help make sure all the activities for the year go on and do the planning for them.” Mr. Robinson started as our FFA advisor in July of 2000. He has been working here for 24 years.
Some upcoming FFA events are the fruit sale starts on October 11th, the National FFA convention, activity night, bowling night, poinsettia sale, fruit sale delivery, speaking contests, proficiency awards, state and American degrees, FFA week, banquet, and CDE events.
FFA auction recap (Sunday, October 8th): “It was our 22nd auction,” replied Mr. Robinson. “It went very well; a lot of good business support and good community members there buying and purchasing stuff,” explained Mr. Robinson. “There is something for everybody,” Mr. Robinson said about the auction.
The fruit sale (Wednesday, October 11th) is all online. There is a digital link FFA members can share, which everything can be purchased with a card. “The fruit sale usually lasts two weeks,” Mr. Robinson informed.
Dairy Expo Recap (Tuesday, October 3rd): “The weather was very nice and beautiful,” exclaimed Mr. Robinson. Mineral Point FFA members, including Mr. Robinson, were greeted with a camera as soon as they got off the bus, which the film was used for the Wisconsin State Journal. “They got to see collages, a lot of new equipment, and the largest dairy show in the world,” said Mr. Robinson.
Mineral Point’s animal and vet class for 2023 raised two calves. One Jersey dairy steer and dairy, Angus cross heifer. “It’s good for students that never have had the responsibility of taking care of animals to learn the responsibility of taking care of them,” explained Mr. Robinson. The animal and vet students were on chore duty for a week. By having these calves, the animal and vet class is taught how to vaccinate, dehorn, feed types, and treat illnesses to help the calves stay healthy and grow. The calves were donated to the animal and vet class and were sold in this year’s FFA auction.
What he loves about our FFA club is how “we are diverse, so when I say that we do well in speaking and judging contests,” said Mr. Robinson. “We have good leaders; they go out and volunteer to help with things in school,” said Mr. Robinson. “The students in FFA know what it traditionally means,” said Mr. Robinson. He also likes, “It is the oldest organization in our school, one of the oldest in our country, and the largest youth organization in the world,” said Mr. Robinson.
“Our focus is our competitions, so when I say that, we focus on our speaking competitions, CDE career development event, and proficient or SAE applications,” said Mr. Robinson.
Mineral Point FFA chapter is more than just a club; it’s a group of many individuals who love and learn about agriculture. I hope you learned more about our FFA club.
