On Saturday, the Mineral Point Varsity wrestling team, along with 18 other schools
competed at the Tom McGarvie Early Bird Scramble in Watertown. Lennon Ewert competed at 106 pounds and made a final run but was defeated in the finals 11-6 to finish in 2nd. At 113 pounds, Elliot Kite fell short in his final match of the day but finished in 4th place. Mason Scullion was 4-1 on the day to finish 5th place at 126 pounds. Freshman Cole Pautz competed at 132 and finished 12th place in his first high school tournament. Roen Carey continued his perfect start to the season. He picked up five wins on the day, winning his championship match 10-0 over Trey Zemke of Winneconne. Quinten Kite was 10th in the 144-pound weight class. Jake Dannenberg wrestled his first matches of the season, going 4-1 for a 5th-place finish. Despite losing his first two matches, Emmitt Collins battled back, winning the next 2 out of 3 matches and finishing in 13th place. Kade Rule started the day off 4-0, making it to the finals, but came up short, losing 7-4 for 2nd place at 165 pounds. Clayton Yanna finished 15th place in his first high school tournament. Alan James picked up three wins and finished in 10th place. Mac Busser made it to the finals in back-to-back years but could not win the gold but settled for silver and a 4-1 record on the day. Matt Aruit had a great day, going 4-1 finishing in 3rd place in his respective division. He continues his great 6-1 start to the year.
The Varsity team prepares for a matchup vs Fennimore on Friday, December 8th, Following the wrestling Hall of Fame inductions. Then they head to the Wisconsin Dells on Saturday for some dual meets.
In the girls’ division, Dealya Collins dominated, pinning all four of-year opponents en route to a 1st-place finish. Dealya looks to continue her winning ways on December 9 as the girls compete at Waunakee High School.
