Mineral Point Vs. River Valley
It was a highly anticipated game when River Valley came to Mineral Point. River Valley went into the game with a 2-2 record, taking down Evansville 72-36 and Fennimore 58-29 but falling to Brodhead 52-72 and Mount Horeb 47-74. On the other hand, Mineral Point came into the game with a record of 2-0, taking down Platteville 78-68 and defeating New Glarus 73-49.
I asked Drew Aschliman and Coach Burreson about their expectations.
Couch Burreson said, “River Valley is going to be a hard opponent, and Mineral Point would have to play very well defensively.” Drew said, “I knew they had won some good games.”
The game started with Mineral Point having a hot start and never looking back, going into the half with a 37-14 lead. The same would come out of Mineral Point in the second half. They finished the game with an 82-42 victory. Jackson Wendhausen had 19 points, which led the team.
When asked how Drew and his team played, he said, “We moved the ball well.” When both were asked what they could do better, Coach Burreson said, “Consistency on both ends of the court,” and Drew said, “We need to work on communicating better.”
Drew commented that this game would make the team more prepared for future games as it helped them get more comfortable in the system. They need to keep playing good basketball. Coach Burreson said this game prepared his team for their next game because all of the teams they faced before had played man-to-man defense, but Valley played zone, and he was happy with how his guys reacted.
