WASHINGTON, DC – A popular Washington, DC bakery was left with thousands of dollars in damages after a vandal threw a heavy metal beer keg through its front window late Monday night.
The Midnight Vandalism
According to the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD), the incident occurred around midnight on Monday at the famous Georgetown Cupcake shop.
Surveillance footage released by both the business and police shows a male suspect casually carrying a beer keg toward the storefront. The individual then lifted the heavy keg over his head and launched it directly through the main glass window before calmly walking away toward the street.
Terrified Staff Inside
The bakery, widely known for its features on TLC’s reality show DC Cupcake, operates around the clock. Co-owner Sophie LaMontagne confirmed that a baker was actively working inside the shop when the glass shattered.
The heavy metal keg bounced off a wire rack inside the kitchen, leaving the employee shaken but uninjured. Owners estimate the total cost of the physical damage to be around $10,000.
Suspect Description
The Metropolitan Police Department is currently analyzing the surveillance footage to identify the suspect. He was last seen wearing:
- A green T-shirt
- Khaki pants
- Dark sneakers
