Chaos at Hersheypark More Than 50 Youths Charged After Opening Day Fight Forces Families to Hide

Hershey, Pennsylvania — What began as a celebration of Hersheypark’s 120th season quickly turned into chaos after a massive fight involving dozens of youths erupted inside the popular amusement park, leading to criminal charges against 55 people months later.

According to the Derry Township Police Department, the incident occurred on April 3 during the park’s opening day festivities.

Authorities announced this week that 53 minors and two other young adults, ranging in age from 12 to 19, were identified as participants in multiple fights throughout the park.

Fight Broke Out Near Popular Family Attractions

Investigators said security footage showed two groups arguing before the confrontation escalated into a physical altercation near the Trailblazer roller coaster shortly before closing time.

Police were called to assist park security after reports of a large fight involving numerous teenagers. Witnesses estimated that between 50 and 60 youths were involved in the disturbance.

Authorities said the groups were initially separated, but the conflict did not end there.

Families Reportedly Hid Under Tables During Second Confrontation

After the first altercation was broken up, some participants allegedly encountered each other again near a food court area, where another fight erupted.

Court documents cited by local reports indicate that families sought safety by hiding under tables and quickly leaving the area as tensions escalated.

Videos circulating online appeared to show multiple teenagers fighting near amusement rides while large crowds gathered to watch and record the incident.

The disruption became so severe that park employees were forced to halt operations on one of the rides.

“These actions caused serious inconvenience to Hersheypark staff and patrons of the park. This caused an emergency stop to the Skyrush ride,” officers stated in court records.

Months-Long Investigation Leads to Dozens of Charges

Following a three-month investigation, police filed a wide range of charges against those allegedly involved.

The charges include Simple Assault, Aggravated Assault, Riot, Conspiracy, Disorderly Conduct, Theft, and Failure to Disperse, among other offenses.

Authorities publicly identified three adults connected to the incident: Omar Ibraham, 19, Jerome Ross III, 18, and Quaneek Williams, 18, all from Harrisburg.

According to investigators, Williams faces several charges, including felony riot and assault-related offenses. Meanwhile, Ibraham and Ross were accused of using a wristband allegedly taken from a minor to gain entry into the park.

Police said the value involved in the theft allegation was $90.80, the cost of a single-day admission ticket.

Attention Turns to Youth Safety Policies at Amusement Parks

The incident has also renewed discussion about whether amusement parks should implement stricter supervision requirements for younger guests.

While Hersheypark does not currently appear to have a chaperone policy, several major amusement parks across the country have introduced restrictions in recent years. Some parks now require visitors under a certain age to be accompanied by an adult during evening hours.

In a statement, Hersheypark emphasized its stance on guest behavior.

“Consistent with Hersheypark’s zero tolerance policy, those who do not abide by our policy will no longer be welcome on our property.”

The three adults identified in the case are expected to make their first court appearances on July 7, while the investigation’s findings have resulted in one of the largest groups of youth-related charges connected to an incident at the park in recent years.

What do you think about this incident? Should amusement parks require stricter chaperone rules for minors, or are such policies unfair to responsible young visitors? Share your thoughts respectfully in the comments below.
