Best of the Iowa County Fair

Best of the Iowa County Fair

The fair is always a big hit every year. The fair started in 1851 in Dodgeville, Wisconsin, and was moved to Mineral Point in 1856. Tons of people come to go on rides, have fair food, see animals, show, etc. The fair goes from September 1-5, morning to night. We sent out a survey asking about favorite rides in the midway and events that take place at the fair. The overall ride winner was the Bullet, and in second place was the Tilt-a-Whirl. For events, the winner so far is the hypnotist show, and the second overall is the showing of the animals.

The hypnotist show took place Friday and Saturday night. As someone who took part in the hypnotist show, I can confirm it’s real, but it doesn’t work on everyone. It’s about a two-hour show; a while after the show, you don’t remember much besides questioning why you did what you did. If you’re the one being hypnotized, you won’t even know you’ve been acting like this for an hour or more. If you haven’t been hypnotized or watched a hypnotizing show, I recommend doing so!

The second overall vote was showing. Many showings started on the second day of the fair. Pigs were Thursday afternoon and Friday morning. You walk a pig around the ring, and the judge will place you 1-7th based on how you walk your pig and how the pig looks. This year, the swine barn tried something new, The Bacon Buddies. The Bacon Buddies is where people who show pigs or want to help out show pigs with people that have special needs and get to know each other.  We participated in this, and we had a good time.
