2022 Mineral Point Basketball Hall of Fame

The Mineral Point “Hall of Fame” recognizes the records and achievements of former student-athletes. This past Saturday, seven alumni were inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame. Recently added to the twenty-one members and one entire team of the MP Basketball Hall of Fame are Amy Edge, Parker Downey, Joe Bolan, Brian Murphy, Sam Graber, Cari Schaaf, and Tom Speich.

Joe Bolan Class of 1959 continues to rank first in a single-season rebound record of 375 between 1958 -1959 in only 20 games. Joe is currently ranked 3rd overall with 665 career rebounds. In his basketball career, Joe was able to average double-double in points and rebounds, earning his title with All-Conference recognition.

Tom “TL ” Speich (Spike) a graduate of 1959 scored 417 as a senior without the benefit of three-point shots. Tom earned all-conference recognition as a junior and senior and held the leading scorer record at Mineral Point with 742 career points. Tom would hold that record for 15 years.

A 1960’s graduate, Sam Graber is one of only two Mineral Point players to earn first-team all-conference recognition in the 1950-60s. Sam scored 332 points as a senior with a high of 31 points in one single game. Sam later went on to play college ball for Lakeland College with fellow teammate Tom Speich, Sam was honored by being inducted into the Lakeland Hall of Fame in 1980.

Brian “Moose” Murphy graduated in 1994. He was a two-time first-team all-conference player, scoring 872 career points including 447 points during the 1993-94 season. Brian went to play college basketball for the university of U-W Platteville under Head Coach Bo Ryan. While in college Brian was a part of two national championship teams.

Cari (Schaaf) Schaefer, class of 1999, had 511 career rebounds including 215 in one single season. Cari earned first-team all-conference performer twice and SWAL 2 MVP for the 1998-99 season. Cari went on to play college volleyball at Ripon College.

Amy (Edge) Dittmer, a 2001 graduate, showed her talent by being a three-time first-team all-conference performer. Edge graduated with 1,034 points to her name scoring 348 of those points her senior year! Amy ended her senior year with an outstanding 500 rebounds, 185 assists, and 230 career steals. Amy later went on to play softball for St.Mary’s University of Minnesota. 

Parker Doney, a 2005 graduate, holds the record for single-season free throw percentage with an 83% in games and 93% career free throw percentage. Parker scored 1,051 career points while also being a two-time all-conference player including achieving conference MVP in the 2004-05 season. Parker is currently a Mineral Point Boys Basketball assistant coach.
