MPSD Mental Health
The Mineral Point School District is getting a good start to the school year by focusing on building connections with the students and staff. One of the ways classes do this is at the beginning of the year when homerooms work together in the middle school to make posters to hang around the door to represent their class.
School social worker, Mrs. Robb, explains that in the next couple of months, students will be working on bonding with each other and staff during advisory. There will be monthly themes about mental health in the Sources of Strength program. October’s theme is healthy activities. Some of the upcoming activities to promote health include kickball, ultimate frisbee, yoga, and mindfulness.
Middle school teachers who are Sources of Strength trained were interviewed and asked, “What does it mean to you knowing you are a trusted adult?” Mrs. Siegenthaler said it means, “just knowing any kid can be comfortable coming into my room anytime, and that I am there for them when they need it.” She also explained how she maintains her own mental health, “I like to go on morning walks, read, shopping, and spending time with my kids.”
Mrs. Brown said, “I hope that I’m somebody to talk to when kids need anything.” She also shared what she likes to do for her mental health, “I like to exercise daily, try to eat healthy, read, and take breaks for myself when I need it.”
Mineral Point School District staff and Sources of Strength teachers are glad to work on promoting a good atmosphere for all students. Keep looking on pointermedia.org for more updates!
