Madison, Wis. — Madison police arrested two men and identified a woman as a suspect following an early morning robbery on the city’s east side, authorities said.
The incident happened around 1:45 a.m. Friday in the 1700 block of Thierer Road, according to the Madison Police Department.
Police said a man had offered a ride to a woman when two men unexpectedly entered the backseat of the vehicle. The men allegedly reached into the victim’s pockets and stole cash before fleeing the scene with the woman to a nearby apartment.
Officers responding to the call quickly located the suspects and took two men into custody a short time later.
During the arrest, police said one of the suspects attempted to retrieve the stolen money from his sock. While doing so, officers discovered illegal drugs, prompting additional charges.
Suspects Identified and Charged
Authorities identified one of the arrested suspects as Percell T. Swiney, 31, who was taken into custody on a charge of strong-armed robbery.
The second suspect, Melvin D. Jackson, 22, was arrested on charges of strong-armed robbery and possession of heroin, police said.
Both men are currently being held at the Dane County Jail, pending further court proceedings.
Woman Also Implicated in Robbery
Police said the woman involved in the incident has not yet been detained, but investigators have developed probable cause to arrest her. She is expected to face a charge of armed robbery as a party to a crime.
Her name has not been released at this time.
Investigation Ongoing
Madison police said the investigation remains active as detectives continue reviewing evidence and statements related to the robbery. Additional charges may be filed as the case moves forward.
