OAKLAND, CA – A standout student at Fremont High School is making history after being accepted into 31 different colleges, yet his dream of higher education faces a significant financial hurdle.
A Historic Achievement
Dominic Antoine Jr. has achieved what few have in over half a century. According to Fremont High School officials, Dominic is the first Black male student-athlete to be named valedictorian at the campus in over 50 years. He may also be only the second Black student in the history of his specific Academy to earn this top academic honor.
As graduation approaches, the excitement of these record-breaking acceptances is being overshadowed by a harsh reality: the rising cost of tuition.
The Tuition Gap
Despite his stellar academic record and athletic participation, the total cost of attendance for his top-tier college choices is proving to be out of reach. While many colleges have offered him spots, the financial aid packages provided do not fully cover the extensive costs of tuition, housing, and books.
Dominic and his supporters are now looking for community assistance to bridge the gap so that this bright scholar can choose the best path for his future without a crushing debt burden.
Local Support
The Oakland community has a history of rallying behind its youth, and Dominic’s story is quickly gaining attention across the Bay Area. Officials at Fremont High School hope that his historic milestone will inspire others to help ensure that his 31 acceptances turn into a college degree.
