Moorhead, Minnesota — A Minnesota couple is facing serious felony drug charges after authorities say their daughter distributed THC gummies to middle school students, causing multiple children to become sick and triggering a major police investigation.
The alarming incident unfolded on May 18 at a middle school in Moorhead, where school staff noticed several students displaying concerning symptoms consistent with drug impairment.
Students Became Sick After Consuming Gummies
According to the criminal complaint, police were called to the school after approximately a dozen students visited the nurse’s office suffering from symptoms including slow movements, bloodshot eyes, vomiting and elevated heart rates.
Officials said the condition of some students became serious enough that two children were transported to the emergency room for medical treatment.
Investigators later learned that several students had allegedly consumed THC-infused gummies referred to as “sour strips.”
One student reportedly told authorities the gummies came from a fellow student — the daughter of the accused couple.
In addition, one student agreed to undergo a urine screening, which allegedly tested positive for marijuana, according to court documents.
Police Investigate Alleged Drug Distribution
As investigators continued interviewing students, troubling additional allegations surfaced.
According to court documents, one student claimed the girl’s father had been supplying her with THC vape cartridges to sell to classmates.
Authorities allege more than a dozen people had purchased the cartridges from the girl and that she would reportedly turn over the money to her father afterward.
The allegations prompted police to launch a broader investigation into the family and their home.
Search Warrant Reveals Alleged Drug Operation
Police later executed a search warrant at the family’s residence and reportedly discovered a large quantity of drug-related products inside.
According to the complaint, investigators found THC flower, vape cartridges, wax products and packaging materials throughout the property.
Authorities also claimed one room inside the home appeared to be organized like a retail storefront.
The complaint states the room contained cabinets filled with THC products, packaging supplies and bags, allegedly set up for sales and distribution purposes.
In addition to the marijuana-related items, investigators reportedly uncovered 600 grams of psilocybin mushrooms along with a significant amount of cash.
Parents Arrested After Returning From Vacation
Authorities said the parents, ages 40 and 43, were reportedly away on vacation when police searched the residence.
At the time, the family home allegedly contained the girl’s grandfather and two toddlers.
Police later arrested the couple after they returned to Minnesota.
Court records also reveal that the father has multiple prior controlled substance convictions dating back to 2005, adding further scrutiny to the case.
Couple Facing Multiple Felony Charges
The couple now faces several serious criminal charges, including aggravated first-degree sale of a controlled substance, aggravated first-degree possession of a controlled substance, and additional drug possession offenses.
They are also each facing a gross misdemeanor child endangerment charge related to the allegations involving their daughter and the conditions surrounding the case.
The incident has sparked concern among parents and community members about access to THC products among minors and the dangers of drug distribution in schools.
