Friday night, the Mineral Point girls basketball team headed to Dodgeville for the second game of the season. With losing to the Dodgers last year, the girls wanted to come in strong and fierce. Prior to the varsity game, the JV girls got a chance to battle the Dodgers on their home turf. They came out strong beating the Dodgers with a score of 58-28. Leading scorers for the game were Morgan Lee with 12 points and Ella Kroll with 11 points. Following the JV game, the varsity girls took the court. Coach Mike Keyes explained before the game that this was an opportunity to make a statement, it was an opportunity to redeem ourselves from last year. This powered the girls on a deeper level coming into the game. They came out and definitely made a statement by beating Dodgeville 82-30. Leading scorers were Mallory Lindsey with 17 points, Blair Watters with 16 points, and Ella Chambers and Katelyn Cox added 13 each. Senior Blair Watters added, “I definitely thought we played a lot faster and got the game going up and down like the way we wanted. We shot the ball really well and played strong defense!” This game was already a big improvement from Tuesday night’s game against Richland Center. We look forward to seeing more improvements throughout the season! Come out and support the girls on their second home game of the season against the River Valley Black Hawks with the theme being construction workers!
