This past Saturday, your girls’ basketball team had an important regular-season game against the Belleville Wildcats. Prior to the varsity game, the JV girls had the chance to take on the Wildcats. It was a real nail-biter in the first half, but the Pointers started to pull away in the second half. Olivia Wilson led all scorers with 17 points which resulted in the 47-34 win. The Varsity girls came into the game knowing that this was a big one. For the past couple of years, Belleville has been making comments on social media, trash-talking about our team. Claims have also been made that we haven’t been playing the right competition to be ranked #1, this game shut those comments down. All of this motivated the girls to come out strong, make a statement, and gain respect; that’s exactly what they did. By beating the #7 team in D4, the Pointer girls gained a lot of respect. The Pointers defeated the Wildcats 67-47, handing the Wildcats only their second loss of the season. Ella Chambers led all scorers with 20 points, followed by Blair Watters with 16, and Katelyn Cox with 10. Senior Ella Chambers comments, “It was a great win for the team for sure. We handled them well and continue to step up our game every time we´re on the floor. Just need to keep this up!” Come support you girls Tuesday night against the second meeting against the Darlington Redbirds. Show up in your formal outfits!
