Some people wake up early on Saturday mornings to watch cartoons. But not us. Not us. Instead, the fabulous DodgePoint Soccer Team took the opportunity to play a home soccer game against Jefferson. And play they did. Despite the vaguely cold and wet environment, there was some heat to be found on the field that morning. JV played first (as per usual) and ended up soundly conquering the visiting players. Many great moments took place throughout the 70 minutes that the game consisted of, but my personal favorite was the goal scored by Mineral Point’s very own Nolen Fox. Allow me to break it down for you. Nolen, who was playing the Center Forward position at this time, received a pass right down the middle and proceeded to dribble the ball past not one, not two, but three separate defensive positions. Of course, this landed him the perfect opportunity to score a goal, so that’s exactly what he did. He launched an absolute banger shot the curved right past the goalie’s outstretched hands and landed neatly on the far right side of the net. We finally have an answer to the age old question, “What Does The Fox Say?” Well, according to Saturday morning, The Fox says “GOOOOOOOOAAAAAAALLLL!”

It was all very exciting. Thanks in part to Nolen’s contribution, the JV won the game 2-0. Afterward, Varsity proceeded to do the same exact thing but on a much larger scale. Everything just seemed to click for the team and things simply fell into place. There weren’t any crazy awesome, award winning, record breaking plays to be had but there were just enough simple quality maneuvers to end up winning the game for the DP Varsity, 3-0. Sometimes, simple can be best. Man, after everything that seemed to go right in those games, one can’t help but wonder if the team should play on Saturday mornings more often. But that’s besides the point. Here’s hoping we can keep the ball rolling (pun intended) throughout the week.
