Pointer Volleyball Sweeps Viroqua

October 20th

In Pointer Volleyball action Thursday night the girls hosted the Viroqua Blackhawks. The team was very prepared for the night and ready to see where this match took them. They started the night off strong winning the first set 25-16. The girls knew they could make this night go by quicker so they won the next two sets scoring a quick 25-13 and 25-10 sets. This helped the girls move right along into the third round of playoffs.

MP Stat Leaders:

Aces – Mackenzie Ripp – 4

Kills – Kennedy Wenger – 11, Kennedy Kabat – 6

Assists – Mackenzie Aurit – 20, Bre Goninen – 8

Blocks – Kate Cox – 4, Kennedy Kabat – 2

Digs – Kennedy Wenger – 17, Maddy Kabat – 12

Coach Kabat claimed, “Our girls came out and handled the ball well and controlled the tempo of the game all night.  The Viroqua team and fans brought some good energy to the gym tonight, but our girls were able to keep their composure.  We knew we had to key in on their #3 & #14 outside attackers and were ready for the back row attacks.  Overall, our defense and passing were on POINT tonight, and I am thrilled with how every girl stepped up their game tonight.  In particular, Kate Cox and Mackenzie Ripp stepped up big tonight.  They don’t get a lot of accolades and rarely are stat leaders for us, but their presence and play tonight were a game changers.  We hope they all continue to elevate from here.”

The girls are on to the next round where they take on the Darlington Redbirds at home to see who will win the Regional title. Make sure to come and cheer in your black as the student section theme is blackout!
