Sweetwater, Florida – A pregnant woman who was taken to the hospital after a police shooting at her home has been released, family members confirmed, following an incident in which Sweetwater police fatally shot her husband during an alleged domestic dispute.
Authorities say the shooting occurred Wednesday evening near the 11000 block of Southwest Seventh Terrace in Sweetwater, when officers responded to reports of a domestic altercation.
Police said four officers arrived at the residence shortly before 6:30 p.m. after receiving a call about the dispute.
Officers reported seeing a woman inside the home along with a man who was allegedly armed with a knife.
Police Say Confrontation Led to Shooting
According to Sweetwater police spokesperson Alvaro Zabaleta, the responding officers encountered the situation shortly after arriving at the house.
Authorities said a confrontation occurred between the armed man and the officers at the scene.
Police said officers opened fire after the encounter with the man who was holding the knife.
The 30-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene, officials said.
Police have not yet released the identity of the man or additional details about the moments leading up to the shooting.
Pregnant Woman Taken to Hospital
Officers said the woman involved in the incident was transported to a nearby hospital shortly after the shooting.
Police stated she appeared to have visible bruising and was approximately five months pregnant.
Authorities said the woman was taken to the hospital for medical evaluation following the incident.
Family members later told reporters that she was released from the hospital the following morning.
Neighbors Shocked by Incident
The shooting has left neighbors in the quiet Sweetwater community stunned.
One nearby resident, Sergia Abreu, said she never expected such an event to happen in the neighborhood.
“They are very good people — truly a wonderful family,” Abreu said. “You never hear a raised voice from that house.”
Other residents also described the area as calm and peaceful.
A neighbor identified as Maria said the large police presence caught many people off guard.
“The neighborhood is really calm. Everything is usually good, but with this, we don’t know what’s going on,” she said.
Another neighbor, Michael Chang, said he saw investigators arriving after the incident.

“Sweetwater is usually a chill place. Seeing crime scene investigators come out like that was shocking,” he said.
Investigation Ongoing
Officials have not released further details about what led to the alleged domestic dispute or the exact circumstances surrounding the shooting.
Authorities also have not confirmed whether the officers involved have been placed on administrative leave, which is common procedure in officer-involved shootings.
Investigators are expected to review the incident as part of the standard process following a police shooting.
Police say the case remains under investigation and more information could be released as authorities continue reviewing the incident.
